In working-up the gases from the hydrogenation of CO, particularly when performing the synthesis with gas recycle, the gases, after separation of the high-boiling, liquid products discharged from the converter, are washed with aqueous liquors containing alcohol under saturation with H₂O vapor and then condensed as usual. The liquors used for the washing may be those aqueous alcoholic solutions occurring in the further working-up of the reaction gases.
