      1008.  ------.  [HERBERT, W.]  (Metallgesellschaft A. G.).     [Catalytic Synthesis of Hydrocarbons From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen.] German Patent 736,701, June 29, 1943; German Patent Appl. M 152,823, filed Feb. 15, 1939 (Cl. 12 6-1.03).  FIAT Reel AA-88. frames 3,720-3,722; PB 70,273; Chem. Abs., vol. 38. 1944. p. 3114.

Olefinic and parafinic compounds, notably benzine, high-boiling oils and paraffin, are synthesized at pressures over atmospheric with the aid of incompletely reduced Co salts and hard reducible metal compounds.  The Co salts are reduced 35-70% only.  The reduction is carried out at temperatures higher than the temperature of synthesis.  As carrier for the reduced Co salts, substances other than diatomaceous earth are used.
