      1003HENTRICH, W., LAINAU, C. A., AND KAISER, W. J.  (Henkel & Cie. G. m. b. H.).  Alcohols Containing Eight or More Carbon Atoms.  United States Patent 2,151,106, Mar. 21, 1939.  Chem. Abs., vol. 33, 1939, p. 4599.

Mixture of hydrocarbons synthesized from CO and H2 is fractionated and a fraction containing hydrocarbons of 8 or more C atoms per molecule is subjected to oxidation, as by treatment with a stream of air at 100º-150º in the presence of a Mn soap, and the resulting oxidation products are treated with H2 at 250º-300º under 200-250 atm. pressure in the presence of a Cu-chromite catalyst.  Mixtures of alcohols thus obtained are suitable for producing sulfuric esters and sulfonates.
