Hydrocarbon mixture obtained by synthesis from CO and H₂ is oxidized and subsequently reduced. The acid constituents of the oxidation products also can be converted into esters or anhydrides, and these can be reduced. The reduction also can be accomplished with alkali metals and alcohols.
