      981.  ------.  [HEMMINGER, C. E.]  (Standard Oil Development Co.).  Process of Treating a Hydrocarbon Synthesis Naphtha Product.  United States Patent 2,556,275, June 12, 1951; appl. filed Sept. 11, 1946, Serial No. 696,340, 2 claims (Cl. 260-450).

Naphtha product produced by the hydrogenation of CO in the presence of an Fe catalyst is improved in quantity and quality by removing the oxygenated compounds contained therein.  Process consists of 1st separating the fraction b. 0º-225º F. and subjecting it to the action of a dehydrating and polymerizing action, which causes the oxygenated compounds to form olefins which are polymerized to acyclic and aromatic hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline boiling range.  The remainder of the naptha fraction is subjected to the influence of a dehydrating catalyst only so that the oxygenated compounds contained therein will form olefins, which are already within the gasoline boiling range and so do not need to be polymerized.  The 2 fractions are then combined.  4 United States and 1 foreign patent cited.
