      977.  ------.  [HEMMINGER, C. E.]  (Standard Catalytic Co.).  Hydrogenation of Carbon Oxides.  United States Patent 2,357,894. Sept. 12, 1944; appl. Filed Dec. 11, 1940, Serial No. 369,540; 4 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).  Chem. Abs., vol. 39, 1945. p. 527.

C oxides are hydrogenated in the presence of a suspended powdered catalyst.  To control the catalyst concentration and maintain the temperature of reaction within the desired critical temperature range, the reaction gases are passed through a reaction zone, the area of which becomes progressively smaller in the direction of flow of the reacting gases in a manner to compensate for the decreased volume of gases and to adjust the ratio of catalyst per vol. of unreacted gas to the desired figure.
