      976.  ------.  [HEMMINGER, C. E.]  (Standard Oil Development Co.).  [Hydrocarbons From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen.]  French Patent 959,193.  Mar. 23, 1950; appl. filed Jan. 2, 1948.  Chem. Zentralb., 1951, I. p. 279.

Synthesis is performed in the usual manner at 260º-385º under a pressure of 49 atm.  The synthesis products thus obtained are fractionally distilled.  There are thus obtained a hexane fraction up to 176º and a heavier fraction, b. 176º-205º.  The C2-C5 olefins are polymerized.  The middle fraction (up to 176º) is treated in the presence of bauxite or a SiO2-Al2O3-gel catalyst, in the presence of H2, at 455º-510º and a pressure of 1.4 atm. for 1 hr.  The higher fraction (176º-205º) is treated in the same manner at 426º-524º and 0.7-3.5 atm., is desired in the presence of H2 and with the same catalyst.  The O2-containing compounds are converted into hydrocarbons and a valuable hydrocarbon mixture obtained, which may be catalytically hydrogenated.
