            Carbonization tendency of Fe catalysts may be depressed by adding small amounts of Si, preferably 3-15% by weight of the Fe.  Conventional promoter, 0.1-10% by weight of the total catalyst also may be used.  The Si is fused with the other components and the fused ,as cooled, sized, and, if desired reduced, or powdered Si may be mixed with powdered Fe in metallic form and the promoter added by dry mixing or impregnation.  The catalyst may be reduced with H2 at 600º-1,200º F. until 60%-90% of the O2 is removed.  2 United States patents cited.
