      963.  ------.  [HEINRICH, R. L.]  (Standard Oil Development Co.).  Preparation of Olefin Lubricant Having a High Viscosity.  United States Patent 2,616,916 N. 4, 1952; appl. filed Dec. 6, 1950, Serial No. 199,571; 4 claims (Cl. 260-451).

High-viscosity lubricating oil is made by forming a mixture of a lubricating oil polymer of an a olefin having 5-10 C atoms in the molecule and a proportional amount of 0.1-5 wt. % (1% preferred) of diphenylthiourea.  The mixture is oxidized in the presence of air at 300º-600º F. for 30 min. to 16 hr.  The product has an increased viscosity and a low neutralization value.  Olefins that may be polymerized to produce lubricating oil polymers are the a olefins having 5-10 C atoms in the molecule including pentene-1, hexane-1.  A convenient source of a olefins is the naptha fraction produced in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis when employing a promoted Fe catalyst.  The olefinic lubricating-oil polymer will ordinarily be employed in an amount in the preferred range 97-99.5 wt. %.
