      951.  ------.  [HECKEL, H., AND ROELEN, O.]  (Hydrocarbon Synthesis Corp.).  Catalysts Containing Magnesium Oxide and Cobalt for the Catalytic Hydrogenation of Carbon Oxides.  United States Patent 2,219,042, Oct. 22. 1940: appl. filed Sept. 17, 1938. Serial No. 230,511, in Germany Sept. 27. 1937: 3 claims (Cl. 23-236).  Chem. Abs., vol. 35, 1941, p. 1063.

Method employed for the preparation of catalysts suitable for use in the production of hydrocarbons from C oxides by hydrogenation involves precipitating together basic compounds such as the carbonates of Mg and Co from a solution of Mg and Co chlorides or nitrates containing at least approximately 10% more Mg in relation to Co than corresponds to the ratio of Mg:Co in the catalyst to be prepared, as by use of N2CO3, and removing the precipitate before complete precipitation of the Mg oxide occurs.  Th compounds also may be used.
