            CO and H2 (1:2 vol.) are passed at a temperature of about 160º-175º and under 5-50 atm. pressure over a Co on kieselguhr catalyst, such as one containing Co and Mn (100:15) and infusorial earth 10-20 parts by weight, the Mn serving as an activator.
