      945.  ------.  [HÄUBER, H., AND HIRSCHBECK, J.]  (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.).  [Process for Obtaining Hydrocarbon Oils Suitable as Insulating Oils.]  German Patent 746,304, July 21, 1944; appl. I 58,456, July 7, 1937 (Cl. 12 o-1.06).  FIAT Reel AA 88, frames 4,146-4,148; PB 70,273; TOM Reel 67, item 74, frames 1,111-1,112.

Gases containing 30-40% or more of olefins with the range of propylene to amylene, such as the end gases from the conversion of CO with H2, are polymerized until only very small amounts of unsaturated hydrocarbons remain.  The liquid products are then hydrogenated at 140º-150º under a pressure of 200 atm. over a Ni catalyst.  The hydrogenated oil is treated with superheated steam in the presence of about 2.5% of caustic alkali.  The distillate oils, after removal of the lighter fractions as gasoline and diesel oil, contain about 51% of oil suitable for insulating oil.
