      943.  ------.  [HARTER, H.]  [Hydrogen-Carbon Monoxide Mixtures From Methane and Steam.]  Polish Patent 10,914, Mar. 3, 1930; appl. filed June 23, 1928.  Chem. Zentralb., 1931, I, p. 401.

Gases rich in CH4, such as coke-oven or natural gas, are divided and a part treated with steam and air in presence of catalysts to form CO and H2.  The other part is treated with O2 with or without catalysts to form CO and H2 to be used in the first apparatus to reduce the catalyst and to recover liquid hydrocarbons.  The gases formed by the reduction and remaining in the first apparatus are, after removal of Co2 and H2O, used for NH3 synthesis or for hydrogenation, depending on whether they consist mainly of H2 and N2 or Co and H2.
