Patent Abstracts

Gases rich in CH₄, such as coke-oven or natural gas, are divided and a part treated with steam and air in presence of catalysts to form CO and H₂. The other part is treated with O₂ with or without catalysts to form CO and H₂ to be used in the first apparatus to reduce the catalyst and to recover liquid hydrocarbons. The gases formed by the reduction and remaining in the first apparatus are, after removal of Co₂ and H₂O, used for NH₃ synthesis or for hydrogenation, depending on whether they consist mainly of H₂ and N₂ or Co and H₂.
