      913.  HAGEMANN, A. (Alien Property Custodian).  Preparation of High-Grade Antiknock Motor Fuels.  United States Patent 2,403,524, July 9, 1946; appl. filed Mar. 10, 1941, APC No. 382,639, in Germany Feb. 8, 1940; 6 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).

Unsaturated, low molecular hydrocarbons obtained by cracking high-molecular hydrocarbons are selectively polymerized to convert only the unsaturated isohydrocarbons.  The resulting products are treated with CO and H2 at pressures of 50-200 atm. and temperatures of at least 300º.  Alcohols are thus formed that are dehydrated at normal pressure into alkenes having branched chains.  These are subsequently hydrogenated, producing an aviation fuel of high octane number.
