            H2O or H2O vapor is passed through a bed of coke, which is between the poles of a high-frequency generator, so that luminous discharges take place in the coke.  The content of CO and H2 can be varied by varying the frequency and voltage of the current and rate of flow of the H2O or H2O vapor.
