      894.  GROSS, W.  (Metallgesellschaft A. G.).  [Process for Making Catalysts for Use in Producing Liquid and Solid Hydrocarbons.]  German Patent Appl. M145,617, July 17, 1939  (Cl. IV d-12o).  Auszüge deut.  Patent-Anmeldungen, vol. 6, p. 271: TOM Reel 35, bag 3,440, item 64, 9 pp.

Catalysts containing Fe together with difficulty reducible metal compounds and/or Fe and Cu oxides, which have been precipitated from the nitrates onto kieselguhr supports by means of alkali, are used in producing liquid and solid, as well as oxygenated, organic compounds from CO and H2 at atmospheric or higher pressure.  The kieselguhr is pretreated with the boiling alkali solution, preferably KOH, which is to be used for the precipitation.  The precipitation of the metal salts takes place by stirring the salt solution into the alkali solution containing the kieselguhr.  Precipitation is completed when the catalyst slurry has a pH value of 7.5-11, preferably 9-10.  After precipitation of the catalyst, water glass is added.
