            Metallic composition comprising Fe and Cu is obtained by heating a mixture of finely divided Fe and CuO to above 600º form a hard, sintered mass comprising Cu2O permeated with Fe oxide, which is, after being broken into granules, reduced, for example, with water gas or producer gas at 500º-800º.  The product is used particularly for the manufacture of H2 from steam, as in the Lane process, or from liquid H2O under pressure, as in the Bergius process.
