      886.  GRISENTHWAITE, A. T., AND RUSCHIN, K.  (Power-Gas Corp., Ltd.).  Ammonia Synthesis Gas.  British Patent 685,962.  Jan. 14. 1953.  Chem. Abs., vol. 47, 1953. p. 6637.

NH3 synthesis gas is prepared by gasification of solid fuels containing volatile material with air or steam.  The fuel is separated into 2 fractions-1 high and 1 low in volatile material.  The high-volatile fraction is used to reduce Fe oxide, which is used in turn to obtain gases rich in H2 by treatment with steam.  The oxidized low-volatile fraction is subjected to the water-gas shift reaction, and the product is mixed with the H2-rich gas in the desired N2 : H2 ratio.
