      873.  GRESHAM, W. F., AND MCALEVY, A. (E. 1. du Pont de Nemours & Co.).  Treatment of Olefinic Compounds With Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen.  United States Patent 2,564,104.  Aug. 14, 1951.  Chem. Abs., vol. 46, 1952. p. 4561.

O-containing compounds are prepared from olefinic unsaturated compounds with CO and H2 in the presence of an inert reaction medium in which is dissolved a catalyst consisting of a salt of Co., Ni, or Cu at 150°-250° and under a pressure 550-1.500 atm.   Thus, 5.42 gm. AcOK, 4.58 gm. Co (OAc)2, 4 H2O, 100 cc. H2O, and 28 gm.  C2H4 heated 85 min. at 175°-182° and 600-700 atm. with CO and H2, in a ratio 1:2 and distilled, yielded 2.5 gm.  EtCHO.  B. 48°. And 10.8 gm. EtCH: CMeCHO. b.10% 76°-83°.
