      837.  ------.  [GOUDET, A.]  (The Texas Co.).  Conversion of Synthetic Hydrocarbons Containing Oxygenated Compounds to Hydrocarbons of High Octane Value.  United States Patent 2,452,121.  Oct. 26. 1948: appl. filed Nov. 26, 1947, Serial No. 788,325: 7 claims (Cl. 260-450).  Chem. Abs., vol. 43. 1949. p. 2421.

Hydrocarbon fraction containing dissolved oxygenated compounds resulting from the phase separation at a temperature 200º-300º F. and a pressure 150-550 p. s. i. is subjected to catalytic treatment with an alumina catalyst at 700º-900º F.  The space velocity is 1-10 liquid vol. hydrocarbon per vol. catalyst per hr.  Isomerization of the olefinic constituents takes place and the oxygenated organic compounds are converted to olefins and isomerized.  Thus, the catalytic treatment effects conversion of alcohols and other oxygenated compounds to motor fuel hydrocarbons of high antiknock value.
