      817.  GOETHEL, H., SCHALLER, P., AND TRAMM, H.  Manufacture of Lubricating Oils.  United States Patent 2,199,200, Apr. 30. 1940: appl. Filed Oct. 13, 1937.  Serial No. 168,794, in Germany Oct. 24, 1936, 5 claims (Cl. 196-78).  Chem. Abs., vol. 34, 1940, p. 6442.

Lubricating oil is made from a cracked benzine rich in olefins.  Synthetic gasolines (Fischer-Tropsch process) are used.  Their olefin content may vary widely, but their successively higher boiling fractions must follow a specified density curve closely if a satisfactory lubricant is to be produced.  The synthetic gasoline is cracked under conditions that yield such a density curve and then condensed in presence of AlCl3 for 12 hr. at about 160° C.
