Organically bound S is removed from water gas by passing the latter through activated C impregnated with oxidizing agents. The activated C is prepared according to German Patent 463,772 (abs. 3946). Suitable oxidizing agents are: Nitrates, chromates, dichromates, manganates, persulfates, and perborates.
