            Synthesis gas is prepared by partial combustion of hydrocarbon gas.  The O2 for combustion is divided into 2 streams, and the stream containing 60-75% of the total O2 is mixed with the hydrocarbon gas, preheated to 1,000º-1,200º F., and led to the furnace, where it meets the minor O2 stream preheated to 1,600º F. containing 25-40% of the total O2 required.
