      742.  FRANZEN, H., AND LUTHER, M.  (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.)  [Organic Acids From Hydrocarbons.]  German Patent 489,938, Oct. 29, 1927.  Chem. Abs., vol. 24, 1930, p. 2142.

            Organic acids are obtained from hydrocarbons, especially paraffins, by saponifying the crude oxidation products of the hydrocarbons and treating with mineral acid.  In an example, the crude oxidation product of paraffin is cooked for 3 hr. with excess of NaOH, diluted with hot H2O, and stirred with mineral acid.  Gives another example.
