      732.  ------.  [FRANKENBERG, W. G.]  (Hydrocarbon Research, Inc.).  Catalytic Reduction of Carbon Oxide by Hydrogen.  United States Patent 2,539,414, Jan. 30, 1951; appl. Filed Apr. 30, 1947. Serial No. 745,115; 1 claim (Cl. 260-449).

CO and H2 are contacted with a carbide of an element from groups IV-A, V-A, VI-A, and VII-A.  The carbide may be combined with typical Fe and Co catalysts.  For example W carbide in combination with a typical Fe catalyst may be prepared by dissolving W carbide in molten Fe, pulverizing the resulting product.  The technique of cemented carbide formation may be used.  Pure W carbide, with or without promoter, may be used.  Temperature 400°-700° F. and pressure atmospheric up to 500 p. s. i. are used.  1 literature ref. 3 foreign patents, and 3 United States patents cited.
