      711.  FISCHER, F., PICHLER, H., AND ZIESECKE, K.  (Studien- und Verwertungs-G. m. b. H.).  [Process for the Catalytic Production of Hydrocarbons.]  German Patent Appl. St 62,438, filed Nov. 5, 1942 (Cl. 12 o-1.03).  TOM Reel 100.

The method for producing branched hydrocarbons from CO and H2 using ThO2 as the catalyst has been improved by substituting pressures preferably >100 atm. (200-500 atm.) and 350º-450º.  Under these conditions liquid, branched, aliphatic, and cyclic hydrocarbons are produced almost entirely.  For the production of an active catalyst, basic Th (CO3)2 is precipitated from a dilute Th(NO3)4 solution with soda and the precipitate thoroughly washed free from alkali with boiling H2O and dried at 300º in a stream of air.  Addition to German Patent Appl. St 61,125 (abs. 3685).
