      709.  FISCHER, F., KOCH, H, AND GILPERT, W.  (Studien- und Verwertungs-G. m. b. H.).  [Process for the Conversion of High-Boiling Hydrocarbons into Lower-Boiling Hydrocarbons.]  German Patent Appl. St 63,927, filed Mar. 8, 1944 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel B-196, frames 248-253; TOM Reel 100.

As catalyst for the cracking-hydrogenation process, use is made of a mixture of H2O-free AlCl3 and H2O-free HCl in the vol. proportions of 1 AlCl3 to 0.5 or more of CHl.  The process is carried out at <200º  (preferably at 100º or below) and under a partial pressure of H2 of at least 50 atm.  Example; 25 gm. of a synthesis product from CO and H2 b. 200º-450º and free from olefins were treated in a glass lined autoclave with 17 gm. AlCl3 and 31 gm. HCl under a H2 pressure at 50º and 200 atm.  After a 2-hr. treatment and separation of the mixture, the hydrocarbon had the following composition, in wt. %:  38% isobutane, 21% isopentane, 19% isohexane, 11% isoheptane, 4% isooctane, 7% isononane and higher boiling isoparaffins.  Gives other examples.
