      687. ------.  [FISCHER, F., AND PICHLER, H.]   Production of Hydrocarbons Having a High Carbon Content From Hydrocarbons Having a Low Carbon Content.  United States Patent 1,940,209.  Dec. 19, 1933: appl. filed July 15, 1931.  Serial No. 551,052. in Germany July 18, 1930: 9 claims (Cl. 260-170).  British Chem. Abs., 1934. B. p. 917: Chem. Abs., vol. 28, 1934. p. 1353.

Aliphatic gaseous hydrocarbons are converted into hydrocarbons of higher C content, for example, CH4→C2H2, by passing a mixture of the initial gas with O2 in amount insufficient for complete combustion through a reaction zone at above 1,000º under conditions giving a reaction time of less than 0.01 sec.  The products are cooled by admixture with cold gas immediately on leaving the hot reaction zone.  The amount of O2 used is preferably such that that ratio CO : H2 in the resulting gas is approximately 1:2 so that after removal of the C2H2 the gas may be used for the synthesis of benzine.
