            Coal, peat, wood, mineral oil, and bitumen, or their extracts or distillation products, are treated with O2 or gases containing O2 at a raised pressure and at atmospheric or raised temperature in the presence of H2O, steam, or other noncombustible fluid, the reaction vessel being made of or lined with Ag or an alloy rich in Ag.  Carriers of O may be present, for example, sales of Fe, Mn, or Cu.  The products are mainly acids.  Gives examples.
