      666.  ------.  [FISCHER, F.]  [Hydrocarbons.]  German Patent 571,898, Mar. 9, 1933; appl. filed Dec., 10, 1930 (Cl. 12 o-1.03).  FIAT Reel AA-90, frames 1,440-1,441; PB 70,275; Chem. Abs., vol. 27, 1933, p. 4239.

Liquid aliphatic hydrocarbons are prepared by treating oxides of C with H2 at pressures near normal by the aid of metallic contact agents containing activated Ni.  Any CH4 formed is reconducted over the catalyst to form liquid hydrocarbons.  In the example, the catalyst is prepared by suspending pure kieselguhr in H2O, adding Ni (NO3)2 and Th(NO3)4, precipitating with NaOH, and finally washing and drying.  This catalyst is activated by reduction in a stream of H2 at 350º.  CO and H2 are then passed over it in the proportions 1:2 at about 180º.  CH4 is first formed.  This is returned over the catalyst to obtain higher homologs.  Finally, C6H6 occurs in the liquid hydrocarbons forming the product.  The catalyst should be free from Cu.
