      664.  ------.  [FISCHER, F.]  (Studien- und Verwertungs-G. m. b. H.).  Catalytic Synthesis of Aliphatic Hydrocarbons, as in Production of Light Liquid Hydrocarbons.  United States Patent 2,149,515, Mar. 7, 1939; appl. Filed Apr. 15, 1935.  Chem. Abs., vol. 33, 1939, p. 4270.

Method of increasing the yield in the catalytic synthesis of aliphatic hydrocarbons having more than 1 C atom in the molecule from CO and H2, in which the synthesis is carried out in stages, involves effecting partial conversion of the mixture of CO and H2 in the first stage to the extent of <2/3 the available quantity, Cl in H20, precipitated with Na2CO3, washed until free from alkali, impregnated with 0.125% K2CO3 dried at 110°, granulated, and deposited on a carrier.  Induction of the catalyst takes place at >200° and a pressure below that of the succeeding synthesis (or at 240° and atm. pressure) with synthesis gas in volume ratio of CO:H2=1.2, and until the gas contraction stains a maximum of about 30% in about 3 days time.  The following conversion may then be carried out at 15 atm. and 260° with a synthesis gas of composition CO:H2=3:2 and a rate of 400 l. of gas per kg. Fe per hr.  Contraction amounts to 50% and the yield of hydrocarbons to 130-150 gm. Per m.3 of gas, of which 80-90 gm. is solid and liquid hydrocarbons and 50 gm. Easily liquefiable benzine.
