      663.  ------.  [FISCHER, F.]  Catalytic Purification of Gases.  British Patent 282,634, Dec. 24, 1926.  Chem. Abs., vol. 22, 1928, p. 3715.

Gases such as water gas (which may be first freed from H2S) are treated for the removal of 8 compounds other than H2S by using a catalyst of precious metal such as Au or Ag, which convert the S compounds in the presence of H2 to H2S without causing any other change in the gas.  The gas is then further treated by a usual method for removing the H2S formed. Silverized asbestos may be used at a temperature of 200º-300º.
