      611.  ELLIOTT, M. A., CLARK, E. L.,  AND STORCH, H. H.  Production of Hydrocarbon Synthesis Gas From Coal.  United States Patent 2,634,286, Apr. 7, 1953; appl. filed Nov. 7, 1949, Serial No. 126,002; 2 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).

Low-S-content synthesis gas suitable for Fischer-Tropsch process is produced from the low-S-content residue char obtained by the direct hydrogenation of coal in the dry fluidized state.  The residue char is passed directly from the hydrogenation zone to the gasification zone, thus reducing handling costs and avoiding losses in energy, which would normally attend discharge of the char from the hydrogenation zone to atmospheric temperature and pressure.  1 literature re., 2 foreign patents, and 4 United States patents  cited.
