      589.  ------.  [EASTMAN, D.]  (The Texas Co.).  Method of Manufacturing Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide.  United States Patent 2,523,284, Sept. 26, 1950: appl. Filed Aug. 17, 1945, Serial No. 611,173; 8 claims (Cl. 23-212).

Two separate reaction zones, 1 exothermic and the other endothermic, are used.  The exothermic oxidation of gaseous hydrocarbons takes place in the presence of a solid heat carrier, which contains a catalyst for the endothermic conversion of hydrocarbon gas.  CO2 carriers acquires its heat in the oxidation zone, 2,000°-2500° F., and gives it up in the production of synthesis gas, 1500°-2,000° F., then is returned to the exothermic zone.  8 United States patents cited.
