      588.  EASTMAN, D.  (The Texas Co.).  Catalytic Synthesis of Hydrocarbons With Controlled Recycle of Carbon Dioxide.  United States Patent 2,436,957, Mar. 2, 1948: appl. filed Dec. 20, 1945. Serial No. 636,226; 8 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).  Chem. Abs., vol. 42, 1948, p. 3932.

Effluent from the catalytic conversion of CO and H2 into hydrocarbons consisting of normally gaseous and liquid constituents is separated into a liquid and a gaseous portion.  The gases themselves are next divided into a major and a minor stream, the former consisting essentially of a gaseous paraffinic and olefinic hydrocarbons, N2 and CO2 and unreacted CO and H2, and the latter of almost pure CO2.  The former is entirely recycled to the process together with enough CO2 from the latter to maintain the CO2 in the reactor feed within the limits of about 15-30%.  There should be 1-4 vol. of recycled material comprising both the major gaseous stream and the CO2 from the minor stream per vol. fresh feed.
