Catalysts for the production of HCOOH from Co and steam comprise the halides (preferably iodides) of a large number of metals. The halides may be made by adding a hydrohalogen acid to the gases and using an oxide, hydroxide, carbonate, or acetate. Carriers may be used. Gives examples.
