            Gases containing CO and H2, which also may contain MeOH, are heated to 250º-400º under 100-200 atm. pressure in the presence of a catalyst such as Co or Ni octaborate, Co Mg borate, ferric metaphosphate, or ferric silicate for the production of EtOH and higher alcohols together with aldehyde and acids.  Describes various details and modifications of procedure.
