            Products such as EtOH, PrOH, acetaldehyde, HOAc, MeOAc, and their higher homologs and ketones are formed from mixtures containing C oxides and H2 such as water gas, coke-oven gas, or producer gas, in the presence of catalysts consisting of alkali or alkaline earth or Cu silicates, borates or phosphates of salts of other oxyacids of P. Temperatures of 200º-600º and pressures of 50-500 atm. may be used, CH4 or inert gases such as N2 may be present and reaction chambers of Cu or steel lined with Cu or of steel containing Mo, W, Mn, Co, or Ni may be used.
