            O compounds of C are hydrogenated in the presence of catalysts composed of or containing Fe or Co in the form of compounds having the metals in the acid radical; for example, ferrites, ferrates, cobaltites, or cobaltates of alkali or alkaline earth metals.  Gives examples, of the preparation of EtOH and higher alcohols along with aliphatic acids and aldehydes from CO and H2 and from a mixture of MeOH, CO, CO2 and H2.
