            In synthesizing MeOH from CO and H2 the reaction gases are passed 1st over 1 or more masses of ZnO with or without Cr oxide and then over 1 or more MeOH catalysts, which are sensitive to S poisoning, such as catalysts containing Cu or Mn or their compounds.  Describes various details of procedure.  Water gas may be used as an initial material.
