            Gas mixtures containing H2 and Co are passed at raised temperature and a pressure of about 5 atm., or at normal or reduced pressure over catalysts effecting the combination of CO with H2, except those favoring the formation of CH4 such as Ni, Fe, or Co.  The gas mixture must be free from impurities such as S and volatile Fe compounds.  The products are MeOH, acetic acid, acetone, and other aliphatic or cyclic compounds such as liquid hydrocarbons, higher alcohols, acids, and ketones.
