             Reaction is effected in the presence of a hydrogenating catalyst such as Co activated with ThO2, at a pressure normally maintained above 0.5 atm. but periodically reduced below 0.5 atm. without interrupting the flow of reactant gases whenever the activity of the catalyst falls considerably to restore is activity.
