Aqueous solution of the oxygenated organic compounds obtained as byproducts of the Fischer-Tropsch process if fractionated to yield an overhead product (I) containing alcohols, aldehydes, and ketones in a fairly concentrated aqueous solution, and a bottoms product, which contains most of the organic acids in a dilute aqueous solution and which is evaporated and fed to a gasifier where the organic acids are converted to CO and steam for recycle to the process.  (I) is treated to recover its organic content in a valuable form.
