      500.  ------.  [DIRECTIE VAN DE STAATSMIJNEN IN LIMBURG.]  [Gasifying Carbonaceous Material.]  Netherlands Patent 68,491.  Aug. 15, 1951. Chem. Abs., vol. 46, 1952, p. 5824.

In gasifying powdered coal in a gas generator, combustion gases are used as a gasifying medium for the material, which is preheated in a separate combustion chamber; the gases are fed to the generator in an upward stream at a temperature above the gasifying temperature and at a velocity somewhat above the suspension velocity of the bigger coal particles, whereas within the generator the velocity is somewhat below the suspension velocity.  The generator may be of inverted conical form or it may have restricted passages with horizontal baffle plates between.  Parallel or countercurrent flow may be applied.  Gives structural and operative details.
