      493. ------.  [DIDIER-WERKE, A. G.]  Generation of Synthesis Gas With Recovery of Aromatic Hydrocarbons.  British Patent 531,288, Jan. 1, 1941: appl. Filed July 17, 1939.  Chem. Abs., vol. 35, 1941, p. 8262.

Solid Fuels are carbonized by external heating in continuously operating vertical carbonizing retorts.  That part of the gases and vapors that is generated between the commencement of the heating and a fuel temperature of 500°-600° is led away from the region of generation in the direction of increasing temperature through the fuel as far as a fuel temperature zone of 500°-600°.  A mild cracking of these gases and vapor is thereby effected.  The gas is drawn off from the retort, the benzene and light oil are removed, then it is mixed with the CO2 and H2-containing gas subsequently produced from the partly carbonized fuel.
