      492.  ------.  [DIDIER-WERKE, A. G.]  [Gas Mixtures Containing Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen.]  German Patent 669,434, Dec. 24, 1938 (Cl. 24 c-1.01).  Chem. Abs., vol. 33, 1939, p. 2685.

A solid fuel, preferably coal or brown coal, is degasified and coked, and the coke is partly converted into water gas in the same apparatus.  The residual coke is passed to a generator in which it is gasified, and the generator gas is mixed with the water gas to yield a mixture containing CO and H2 but of low CH4 content.  The mixture may be used, for example, for producing N2-H2 mixture for use in the synthesis of NH3.  The gases evolved during the coking of the fuel are used to heat the plant.
