            MeOH is made from CO and H2 with formation of methyl formate as byproduct and reduction of the same to MeOH at <200º 9preferably 80º-170º) and at pressure 100 atm. (preferably 30-60 atm.).  The proportions of H2; CO in the gas mixture are 2:1.  The reaction is best preformed in the liquid phase, for example, in a solution of alkali methylate in MeOH, in which the hydrogenation catalyst is suspended.
