      472.            DEMING, P. H.  (Shell Development Co.).  Production of Hydrocarbon-Oxygen Mixtures.  United States Patent 2,519,955, Aug. 22, 1950; appl. filed Sept. 3, 1946, Serial No. 694,529; 12 claims (Cl. 62-175.5).  Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 10,302.

Mixtures of CH4 and O2 suitable for preparation of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis gas are produced in a 2-stage process.  (1) A stream of precooled air is passed upward through a rectifying absorption vessel, and a stream of liquefied portion of natural gas, principally CH4, is passed downward in countercurrent flow to produce a separated stream of N2 substantially free from O2 and hydrocarbons and liquefied phase if natural-gas hydrocarbons and O2.  (2) The liquefied phase is stripped with CH4 at a low temperature to produce a CH4-O2 mixture.  A liquefied natural-gas residue containing a low concentration of O2 remains.  2 United States patents cited.
