      469.     DE LACOTTE, A. H.  [Catalytic Hydrogenation of Oxides of Carbon.]  French Patent 835,899, Jan. 5, 1939.  Chem. Abs., vol. 33, 1939, p. 5002.

In the hydrogenation of oxides of C to form MeOH, in addition to the ordinary catalysts, for example, having a basis of Cu or Zn, an intimate mixture of at least 2 oxides of the 3d and 4th group are used, a mixture in which the constitutes of acid character are in preponderance over those of more basic character.  An example of a catalyst contains Cu, 60; MnO2, 55; cerite 55, and SiO2, 240 parts.  The formation of secondary products is thereby reduced.
