      419.     ------.  [COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ÉLECTROMETALLURIGIQUES ALAIS, FROGES ET CAMARGUE.]  [Antiknock Fuels.]  French Patent 843,370, July 3, 1939.  Chem. Abs., vol. 34, 1940. p. 7102.

Antiknock fuels of high quality are obtained by subjecting mixtures of CO of H2 under various pressures and temperatures, to the action of catalysts of the type used in the synthesis of higher alcohols having a branched chain, adjusting the pressure, temperature, and the passing speed so as to obtain a mixture of alcohols and hydrocarbons in the greater part unsaturated without the formation of MeOH, transforming the alcohols into hydrocarbons, separating the liquid hydrocarbons from the gaseous ones, converting the latter into liquid hydrocarbons by polymerization and converting the unsaturated liquid hydrocarbons into saturated ones by catalytic hydrogenation.  The catalyst should contain a least 1 element of group 1 of the periodic table, such as Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs, and 1 or more elements of groups 2, 6, and 7 of the periodic table, such as Zn, Cd, Hg, Cr, Mo, W, and Mn.  The addition of small quantities of metals of the group Fe, Ni, Co, or of the group Cu, Ag, Au or of the group V, Nb, Ta increases the yield.
